2001: A Space Odyssey - Notes

-Opening is similar to that of opera

-Famous movie soundtrack

-Amazing scenery

-I can tell it was made in the 60s because of the CGI

-Foreign object landed in the center of the apes

-One ape learned they could use bones of dead animals as weapons

-Apes realized how they can use opposable thumbs to their advantage

-Establish superiority

-Can now evolve from prey to predator

-Supposed to take place in 2001

-Funny how advanced people believed the 2000s would be

-Airplanes in space??

-Voice recognition 

-Voiceprint identification

-The furniture is interesting

-Hilton hotel in space

-No cell phones but people can “facetime” essentially through airport phone booths

-Charged $1.70 for a phone call to his daughter

-The one thing that isn’t advanced is the clothing

-The daughter was wearing a dress that would only be worn in the 60s/70s

-Women have shorter haircuts (pixie cuts)

-Shows the time period

-No one took into account how much styles would change

-The only styles of clothing that are more “futuristic” are the outfits worn by flight attendants 

-Some of the things in this movie are so far stretched that they forgot to show advancements in the most basic things

-Ex. Clothing, cells phones, how people talk, cameras, politics, computer screen quality

-Interesting how the only people on the council are American, but they’re talking about subject matters for all of Earth

-Shows the time period it was created, again

-What is this food???

-Same foreign object as with the apes

-Jupiter mission

-Hibernation chambers

-This food looks disgusting

-“Foolproof and incapable of error”

-Something terrible is going to happen, naturally

-HAL is definitely going to be evil

-HAL claims to have never made a mistake but just made one, purposefully

-He miscalculated the failure of the ship's antennae 

-HAL can read lips!!!

-Space is completely silent

-HAL cut Frank’s lifeline

-Frank is dead, floating through space

-HAL killed the men in the hibernation pods

-HAL won’t let Dave back in

-Dave went in through the emergency hatch

-Dave is inside the brain of HAL

-“I’m afraid” (HAL)

-Dave is destroying HAL

-Dave is alone now on this journey to Jupiter

-Made it to Jupiter

-Traveling through some sort of time and light vortex

-Dave is old???

-Reaches out to touch the monolith

-Baby Dave floating above Earth
